Paleotsunami Survey

Many places in the Southern Coast of Java Island are earthquake and tsunami prone area. Numbers of devastating earthquake and tsunami recorded to happen in this region namely the 2006 Yogyakarta earthquake, the 2007 Tasikmalaya earthquake and tsunami, and the 2009 West Java earthquake.From the results of the previous research and paleotsunami survey conducted it was found indications of tsunamis in the past in several areas along the southern coast of Java, for example in Baron beach, Gunungkidul Regency of Yogyakarta Province, and in Pacitan in East Java 
Province.
Province.To complement the results of previous studies, on December 9, 2011 MAIPARK sent a team to conduct surveys in the eastern tip of Java. Some of the target areas are Puger, Gradjagan, and Sumberagung beach in Malang, East Java. The team led by Professor Zen, Head of R & D Division of MAIPARK, will do the field research for about a week.
From the survey we expect to find new traces of past tsunamis. Beside to enrich company’s database, MAIPARK always share and disseminate information to the government as well as communities so that everybody can prepare themselves and take preventive measures against possible upcoming disaster.
