On July 10, 2021, at 07.43 WIB, an earthquake occurred in the Philippine Sea in the Melonguane-Talaud region, North Sulawesi. This earthquake occurred with a magnitude of 6.2 at a depth of 10 km.
The intensity of the shaking on the surface based on MAIPARK's Cat Modeling and news from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) was reported to be low, namely in the range III-IV MMI, because the location of the epicenter was in the middle of the sea at a distance of 251 Km northwest of Ternate City, the capital city of North Maluku Province.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded that there were 2 aftershocks, the first quake measuring 5.8 M at 07.51 WIB and the second earthquake measuring 5.1 M at 07.58 WIB. Even though it happened repeatedly, the BMKG stated that the earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami.
In addition, until now BPBD has not found any damage to buildings and casualties.
