Climate risk is one of the threats that is increasingly becoming a global concern, especially with the increasingly real impact of climate change. Extreme records of climate disasters have set new records in recent years and have caused huge economic losses, including in the general insurance sector.
As mandated by MAIPARK to become a research center for natural disaster risk management in the Indonesian general insurance industry, in 2023 MAIPARK will conduct an intensive study of flood risk in Indonesia's second largest city, Surabaya. After previously MAIPARK has carried out high-resolution flood modeling in Jakarta in 2017 and Karawang-Bekasi Industrial Estate in 2020.
Surabaya flood risk research is a collaboration between MAIPARK – ITS – ITB and is expected to be an integral part of joint efforts to create Surabaya Tangguh Bencana. As part of the initial implementation of this research program, MAIPARK together with the parties conducted a Focused Group Discussion (FGD) on August 15 – 16, 2023 in Surabaya City.
