Saturday, August 28, 2021, there was a tectonic earthquake in the Keerom region, Papua. According to the BMKG, this earthquake had a magnitude of 6.0 Mw at a depth of 10 km with coordinates 3.47 South Latitude and 140.31 East Longitude. Based on the depth of the hypocenter, this earthquake is a type of shallow earthquake caused by local fault activity with a thrust fault mechanism.
The MAIPARK shake map shows the intensity of shocks in the Keerom District, Jayapura District and the Bintang Mountains District in the MMI II-VI maximum intensity scale. Until now, there is no information on damage and casualties due to the Keerom-Papua earthquake.
